marketing renders
|
Over the past few weeks I have had a chance to spend some time with SolidWorks 2011 while working on some marketing material for my company. This has also allowed me to play with the photorealistic offering of SolidWorks.
SolidWorks 2011 marks the official retirement of PhotoWorks which has been a staple of the software for a number of years. PhotoView 360 has now been moved into its place has the rendering tool incorporated into the software. PhotoView 360 has been around for a couple of years now as a stand alone product but this is the first release where it is incorporated into the SolidWorks software (Professional and Premium products only).
First my disclaimer. I have dabbled with rendering in the past but not a whole lot. At first glance, the integration between SolidWorks 2011 and PhotoView 360 is very nice. The workflow seems really smooth and for a beginner like myself, is really easy to understand.
The ability to add scenes and material is easy to do and the incorporation of the dialog boxes in the PropertyManager is a nice addition.
If you haven’t done so already I encourage you to check out the new PhotoView 360 inside SolidWorks 2011 and try some rendering. You can see what I have done by viewing the slideshow above.

So, pv360 is only in Pro and Premium? I’m not up to speed on the various levels of SW, but when I hit the about button in the help menu, it says SW Office. Currently I have photoworks and pv. Does this mean I may want to hang on to my copy of SW 2010 to do renders?
yes, i believe so…at least according to the product matrix on their website.

this may have to do with photoview 360 being removed as a standalone product and photoworks being replaced by it.
i can try to follow up with somebody and see if i can get you more info.
Ahh, that’s not fun (losing pv and photoworks). I don’t use them much, but I don’t want to lose them either. Thanks for the heads up, time to talk to my var….
Good job Jason
