At the Midwest Regional User Conference in November a user met up with Lenny Kikstra to discuss a SolidWorks enhancement request. This request was described as a Geometry Lock that would allow you to lock certain parts from being rebuilt every time. This could possibly speed up your design time considerably because of the decreased time it would take to rebuild.
